Ousted prime minister Qarase told several news outlets he would attend the court case he has brought against the current interim regime and catch up with his family while in the capital.
With his level of support is uncertain, Qarase said he did not want supporters showing up to greet him on arrival.
Worried about security, his party, the SDL, has requested he be given police protection during his visit to the capital, saying he has a right to such protection as a former prime minister.
Meanwhile, after confining him to his village on one of the remote islands of the Lau group following the December 5th coup, the government recently indicated it no longer followed the events of ‘insignificant’ people - such as Qarase.
The former prime minister’s return will draw attention.
He has said he will also use the visit to plan for the next national elections..
