The candidates for the biggest and most prestigious of the annual beauty contests held anywhere in Tahiti and Her Islands have been chosen from a pre-selection of 25 young   Tahitian ‘vahine’, as they are known.

The owner of a downtown Papeete restaurant gave the 14 young ladies a three-hour course over in table setting and social etiquette, which the French love to describe as "les règles du savoir-vivre". The course also included wine tasting.

The winner will not only reign during a variety of special events for the rest of the year in Tahiti. She will also be a candidate in the 2008 Miss France contest held in Dunkerque during the first week of December.
