Arizona Meteorite Crater
The asteroid is about the size of the meteorite that blasted out  the famous Arizona Meteor Crater about 50,000 years ago. Scientists calculate it is traveling at 8 miles a second and may impact with Mars on January 30th.

Asteroid 2007 WD5 is believed to be a fragment of a comet.   It is about 80 feet (25 meters) in diameter and traveling at 29000 miles per hour   (46,000 kph).

While scientists say there is only a 1 in 75 chance the space rock will actually impact with the planet, if it does they estimate it will blow out a crater about a kilometer wide.

It is expected that more accurate estimates of possible planetary impact will be available as the asteroid draws closer to Mars.
